The Strezelecki Desert, South Australia

The Strezelecki Desert, South Australia

Classic sand dunes, rarely seen in Australia, are etched by the prevailing westerlies of the Strzeleki Desert in the north east of South Australia.

There is little vegetation that can withstand the constant onslaught of the winds. Only the odd spinifex tuft survives in this barren land.

Named for the Polish explorer who traversed the area in the 1800s, of all the deserts that have been identified on the Australian continent this is without doubt the most devoid of life.
